What kind of guitar dose Eddie use on "Aint Talkin Bout Love"? Ive been playing guitar for a long time, and i cant seem to get the part with the noise and the harmonics right after the bridge right. thanks!

Answer
Hi Michelle,

I am not sure what guitar he used for that tune.  In that timeframe he played some variations of guitars including the original Frankenstrats (the hand made striped jobs he used to play all the time).  Fender necks and Charvel bodies.  Jumbo frets.  DiMarzio pickups.  He was also messing with some Flying Vs/Ibanez Destroyers around that time, but I think they were more apparent in VHII and Women and Children First.

I think by trying to identify the guitar...you might be heading in the wrong direction though.  He used to modify stuff all the time and a lot of his sound is in how he uses his fingers.  Really hard to master or duplicate.  He was also using a few effects at the time including an MXR Flanger...a lot of his early sound is attributable to earlier models of this pedal.  The new ones just don't replicate it.

I can tell you...I heard a friend nail Ain't Talkin Bout Love using a Wolfgang Standard and a 5150 combo.  I didn't see any pedals around for that either.

Good luck!  I've been a frustrated guitar players for a few years myself.  Ed is a hard guy to duplicate.  The frustrating thing is he has never been into a lot of effects and stuff....seems like it should be easy, as you know that's not the case though.
