About Geoff Wickens
Expertise
I have a fairly vast knowledge of the history of The City of Vancouver, BC. All my knowledge has been learned through on-hands experience. I am apt to answer most any question in regards to the history of the city, the construction of its bridges and the history behind some of its buildings.

Experience
I drove cab for 5 years and in that time gave numerous city tours with full historical backgrounds. I have a thirst for history and an appetite for knowledge.

Question
I would like to visit Vancouver and area on holiday this August with my two boys aged 15 and 10. I was thinking of having a few days in vancouver and then maybe Vancouver Island. Ideally we would like a one stop place on the island from where we could do activities such as whale watching, hiking matbe some fishing etc. I have searched the internet but haven't found anything that fits. It does seem that every thing would need to be booked in advance though as lots of sites say how busy it is. Can you recommend a resort or area(s)that would make a goo, comfortable base?
thanks
Colin

Answer
Just curious, but where are you coming from?

On Vancouver Island, the place to go for whale watching AND fishing is Campbell River.  My wife and I took our 2 kids on a vacation there and we stayed in Oyster Bay (10 minutes south of CR).  We rented a cabin with everything (kitchen and hottub) and the 4 of us were very comfortable.  Oyster Bay Resorts was the name - right on the Island Highway.  Google "whale watching campbell river" and "fishing campbell river" and see how many hits you get.

Enjoy the trip!

Geoff
