Question On the burrard street bridge there are flame like towers at the top of the structure at either end of the bridge.
Were these build in 1932 with the rest of the bridge ? Or when were they added?
Answer Structurly, nothing has been done to the bridge. The 4 towers (2 per end) were built purely for aesthetic purposes ... they hide the steel used to hold up the bridge. For a while in the 40's & 50's, these towers had stairs leading down underneath the bridge. These were closed to the public because of graffitti and other problems.
I hope this answers your question - feel free to ask more and learn more about this great city!
