Question Hello, I am asking in regards to my Dad. He is 73 yrs. old, 5'11, 190 lbs. He was told he has 100% blockage in 1 artery, 20-40% in the other. He has a stint (sp?) in now (put in March 13, 2006 after a 'small' heartattack). He had a heartattack in 1977, and quad bypass surgery in 1996. He has what he calls 'dizzy' spells very often daily & has faited and hurt himself 3x that I know of in the last few years. He smoked for over 50 yrs. but quit 10 yrs. ago. He is VERY active outside, even though he does not feel well much of the time.
He has seen MANY doctors & specialists for years trying to find the cause of his spells...how is it that the blockage was missed until now? What can we expect as far as treatment & recovery is concerned? Please help, I'm VERY worried!
Thank you. Melissa Farrington
Answer Melissa, I can't tell you how this was missed. Once it is 100% blocked tho, as I am sure they told you, there is nothing that they can do. The best advice I can give is to keep that other carotid scanned on a regular basis, so that if it gets to the place that it needs to be fixed, it can be fixed. Lauri
