Subject: Deep Venous reflux

Question
I was diagnosed several years ago with deep venous reflux. My doc. said it is light reflux. I had the Laser ablation done to close the reflux going from my lesser saphenous. I know that is part of the superficial system. I know that at this point there is nothing that can be done for the deep system reflux but my doc did the ablation because she said that it wold help to improve the overall circulation. I don't have as much swelling as I did so it must have helped in some way, but I have had several other superficial veins done away with by sclerotherapy and I am getting ready to have some more removed. I pay for this out of pocket now since my insurance only covered the ablation. Is there any chance that because I have deep reflux I can make it worse by getting rid of all of these veins or am i making it easier for that system like my doc said? I was told that my greater saphenous will prob. need to be ablated at some point to. I just want to know that I am not hurting my deep system by doing this to my veins. I am only 36 so I am trying to do everything I can to keep my leg feeling and looking as good as I can. Does exercise do anything to help/hurt this condition? It just seems like once a year I have to have more veins injected. I am willing to pay for this if it is helping and not hurting me. Since I have slight reflux what are the odds it will get worse and what can I do to slow this down? Sorry to write so much but I am aware of my condition being untreatable (at this point) I am just trying to keep up with it. Should I keep getting the superficial veins treated? I had several dox tell me just to wear compression stockings for the rest of my life so I was very excited when I had one that told me things could be done to improve my overall condition. Also are we any closer to a surgery or treatment to help my deep system reflux? Thanks so much!

Answer
you have to make sure your deep system is really working well before you get rid if the superficial system or how will the blood get out of your leg?
the valves are soooooooo tiny and fragile that all attempts to repair them so have have failed, there are a few docs who do deep vein bypass, but not many.
be careful and br dure you know the status of the deep system
