Question My 32 year old son had severe leg pain and icy cold feet for three and a half weeks and after two visits to casualty at a local hospital and two visits to GP he eventually got an appointment with vascular department at hospital. After a scan it was found he had two arterial clots one in lower and one in groin. He was admitted immediately and treated for ten days with blood thinners but toes became infected and gangrenous over last few days at first the doctor told us it was to late to remove clots as they were over two weeks old but after we asked if he could be referred to a private hospital the vascular surgeon managed to unblock artery in leg and remove the 4 week old clot Thank God. Because of the toes being badly infected a week later my son had three of them and some tissue removed in a second operation. He is now at home recovering but has a lot of swelling in his lower leg and foot, is this normal? His leg also feeling numb and this worries him as well. He is attending the GP suger nurse every other day where she dresses it for him. He has lost a lot of trust and confidence in the national health service which is why i am asking this question of you, Both of his sisters are podiatrists and if it hadn't been for their constant insistence of him keep returning to seek medical help i am sure matters would have been a lot worse.
Answer ir or was he a smoker?
did they do a bypass to improve bloodflow?
was it a general or vascular surgeon?
