Question
Vitals: 28 y/o male, 145lbs (recently 167), ex-smoker (quit about 2 months ago, smoked for 9 years). I have had strange chest and back pains and fatigue for about 3 months now. I've had cardio work: echo, nuclear stress test: clear. I do have sinus arrhythmia, mainly tachy. I've had an EGD endoscopy by my GI, all clear, and am on PPI's which haven't stopped the pain. I've had multiple chest x-rays and spine x-rays. Neurologist says my spine is ok. Every morning I wake up with a strange tingling sensation in the middle of my chest/back. I have strange pulsating sensations around my back. My main symptom now has developed into constant pain in the middle of my back and it seems to get worse with some positions/movement, but also cause pain in other parts of my chest. I have pain around my lower back/butt area that is tender to the touch. I have also had an abdominal CT which was clear. Anyway, because no one is finding anything wrong with me, and there is obvious pain and strange sensations going on in my chest and back area, I've convinced myself, probably irrationally because it would be the least likely thing, that I have some vascular problem or a TAA. I guess though with the multiple chest PA and lateral x-rays, and even a AP x-ray of my lumbars, they would have to have seen something like a TAA right?? I have really caused myself alot of anxiety about this. The other thing I could think of is that maybe TOS or something? Anyway, thanks for the help.

Answer
Well Ryan, I don't think it is an TAA just because of your age, but you would need an ultrasound to see if ther eis anything going on with the aorta. Your doc can set that up for you and either relieve your anxiety or deal with the problem. Good Luck, Lauri
