My father had a femoral bypass 16 years ago when he was 65 years old. A life long smoker, the doctor gave my father the choice of quit smoking and have the procedure done or continue to smoke and lose his leg. My father opted for the former, and quit smoking. The surgery was a success. Unfortunately, about 7 years ago, my father began smoking again. Now at the age of 81, my father had his second femoral bypass. Unlike his first surgery, my father is still not recieving enough blood flow to his leg. Although there is still a small chance to save his leg, the outlook does not look good. At the age of 81 and failing health, my father and family must now come to grips with the strong possibility of losing his leg. Please do not make the same mistake my father made. Find options that will help you quit smoking. I hope this was helpful to people going through similar situations and also to those people who are struggling with quitting smoking.
