About Deborah Robinson
Expertise
I love to cook and collect recipes. I'm not a chef but the things I prepare are big hits at pot lucks - and everyone signs me up for their favorites before I get a chance to decide what I want to bring. I'm not a vegetarian - and I enjoy cooking foods from around the world. My least favorite regional food is the food of Japan - but I have picked up some great recipes while living in Asia. Cooking is my hobby and a great way to get rid of stress for me.

Experience
I have lived in Libya, Morocco, Chad, Japan, Indonesia and Niger. I have learned to cook foods of the Middle East and India as my favorites. Friends from around the world share recipes with me so I'm not limited to recipes from my 'homes' worldwide.

Subject: Differences in greens

Question
Hi Deborah! I am wondering if you can give me a good way to tell what type of greens I am buying? We have started trying different greens from the grocery store, but they are all marked in a big block, and we aren't sure which is which. We'd like to know which ones we like, as it is hard to describe, the curly dark green leafed one as a description. Thanks! Kolie

Answer
Hi Kolie,

There are two ways I might begin to attack this.  First off - most grocery chains have someone who is in charge of the fresh produce.  I would begin by asking him/her.  Bring your digital camera along so you can take pictures of each item as you are told - write down what you are told - then match the pictures and names up at home.

If that isn't possible, try writing down all the veggies' names you don't recognize, take pictures of the veggies available, then, come home and do an image search on Google.  (If you don't know how to do this, let me know and I'll explain later.)  Then, armed with YOUR pictures, and the ones on Google, you should be able to identify the ones you don't know.

I hope one of these ideas works for you.  If not, let me know what didn't work and I'll see if I can come up with another idea.

Debba
