Question
Hi Beth. I need some advice. I want to open up a diner oneday, but Im a little uncomfortable with the idea of selling meat. So I thought that I could just give people veggie versions of things. You know like instead of a cheeseburger with actual meat it would only be a veggie burger. I dont think that I would have many customers this way though. Would it be wrong if I kept not eating meat but fed it to everyone else? I guess it wouldn't bother me as bad if I got only organic meat. Where the animals weren't treated as cruel  while they were still alive. Its always been my dream to have a diner. I cant really ask my family for advice about this. They just get upset because of my choice to not eat animals anymore. Then I get upset. So since your a vegetarian too, can you please give some advice?

Answer
Stacy,

I don't see a problem with vegetarians cooking meat. My husband eats meat, and I cook it for him sometimes. It's his decision to eat it, and my decision as to whether or not I want to cook it. If you don't have a problem with cooking meat, then do it. If you do have a problem with it, then don't do it.

If you do decide to cook meat, you might try buying meat from a local farmer. Small farms usually treat their animals with care. By buying directly from a farmer, the meat would be cheaper and more fresh than in the store. You'd be doing the farmer a favor because he could make a little more money selling it to you than selling it to a factory. In addition, you could advertise in your diner that you use local meat.
