About Beth Expertise I`ve been a vegetarian for over a decade. During that
time, I have become an expert on the nutritional needs
of vegetarians. I can answer questions about pretty
much anything related to vegetarianism.
Question I eat pretty healthy, but am wanting to change to a Veg. diet, but am not sure how, being I am allergic to Soy, peanuts, wheat, and dairy. It seems all the meat-subs, and other Veg. subs, have either Soy or some form of wheat in them. Nuts and beans aren't enough for me. Right now I am eating fish and some poultry, no red meat, so am in a quandry as to how to do it. Any suggestions? Thanks so much

Answer Pam,
I don't like many of the meat substitutes that contain soy. My favorite brand of meat substitute - Quorn - contains mycoprotein, which originates from fungi. I'm not sure if their products are wheat free or not, so you'll want to check out the ingredients. I listed the web site below. You should be able to type in your zip code and find out if Quorn products are sold near you. http://www.quorn.us/
As for recipes, I would go to www.vegetariantimes.com and search. You should be able to come up with plenty of soy, wheat, and dairy-free recipes. You might also check www.foodnetwork.com - that's where I get most of my recipes. Cookbooks might also be helpful. There are tons of those at amazon.com and I'm sure you can find several at your local bookstore.
