Subject: molloscum transmission

Question
i was diagnosed with mollosum about a month ago but have had them for
about 3 months. i have been treating them with aldara and they are slowly
starting to fade. i have probably only 6 small lesions on my vaginal area. i
have not been having sex because of this but recently a guy ended up
fingering me. is it possible to spread molloscum by manual stimulation?
could he have it? can it be on his fingers and then he touches his body and be
spread to him?

Answer
Hi Lindsay,

Molloscum is very contagious. This infection can be spread from person to person by direct skin contact. Scratching the lesions or bumps or touching objects that have the virus on them will also spread the infection. Other objects such as swim suits, undergarments, toys, doorknobs, faucet handles or towels that have been shared can also transmit the virus.
In your case, transmission is very possible due to your partner's direct skin to skin contact with the lesions around your genital area. You should let your partner know right away that he may have been infected.
In the future, always use a condom. For manual genital stimulation, you can use a dental dam over the entire vaginal area. A dental dam is basically a thin sheet of latex. Or your partner could even put a condom over his fingers during manual stimulation.

I hope I could help,
Lyndsay
