About Jordan
Expertise
My name is Jordan and I am an Epidemiology student at the University of Oklahoma. On top of that I am finishing my bachelors in M.D.S. public health and my minor is H.E.S. (health and exercise science). I have had many classes entirely devoted to sexually transmitted diseases, I am starting my independent study focusing on S.T.D distribution based on demographics, and have had a lot of hands on experience at the clinic that I am currently employed. I believe that sexually transmitted disease are a part of life, like any other non-sexually transmitted disease and can be controlled with knowledge. I would love to share this knowledge with anyone that is seeking it and encourage anyone that needs it to just ask, because I would love to help. Since this is a public forum, please refrain from using any personal information of yours or anyone else.

Question
Dear Dr. Tom:

I has sexual contact with someone about 12 days ago.  Immediately after sexual contact, littlerally 30 minutes later I began to have symptoms of a STD.  30 minutes to a day after sexual contact, I began experiencing a burning sensation, 1 to 2 days later a itching sensation on my glans and in my urethra, then a day after it felt like a jabbing feeling inside the right side of my penis and a light pain in the area between my right testicle and right leg, about the 4th day after sexual contact I had no symptoms and a day later I felt itching to about the 9th day after sexual contact then all symptoms stopped.  Throughout this entire time the symptoms that I did experience were intermittent.  I went to see the doctor 5 days after sexual contact to do test and she did all the testing for STD's and did a physical check but did not see anything.  about 7 days after sexual contact I noticed that there was itching around the base of my penis and on my scotum and all of a sudden lots of raised bumps appreared.  So I went to see the doctor again the same day and she and another doctor said they are sebascous glands.  Nothign to worry about.  At the same time I got my results for gonnoreah and syphillis back a they are negaive along with hepatitis and HIV.  However im still waiting for my herpes results.  So 9, 10 and 11 days after sexual contact I have had so visible symptoms or any symptoms at all, however last night after masterbating, placing friction on my glans, I noticed 3 small red spots form in no particular pattern. Now 12 days after sexual contact and 6 hours after noticing the red spots they seem to be turning a greyish colour to a white color any many other spots are forming around the area and the flakes of skin seem to emerging.  They do not hurt when I press down on them but you can notice then if you look very closly.  Jordan based on my description do you think I have herpes?  Thank You

Answer
Now did the doctors just look at the bumps and say that they were sebaceous glands, or did they do a sapping? They are starting to sound like Molluscum and not herpes. Molluscum is closely related to the pox virus and resembles small pearly, pink, or flesh colored bumps and the center of the bump has a white waxy material. Something you need to keep in perspective is that there is a time period after contracting an STD that when tested, it can result in a false negative. Knowing this, I always suggest retesting, just to be on the safe side.
