HOW TO GET TESTED FOR STI (TEST NAME)

Answer
Joe,

I already explained to you how HIV and most STI's (including herpes is transmitted). Herpes is unusual because the fluid secreted during an active breakout can infect a person if you share drinking glasses or toothbrushes or anything that touches the mouth (HSV 1 or oral herpes), which is why you take care to cover up your sores during an outbreak. Also, in the case of HSV 2 or genital herpes, people avoid sexual activity altogether until the outbreak has passed to avoid infection. Herpes is primarily transmitted through contact with the infected fluid from the sores themselves. Whereas all STI's can be transmitted through direct contact with blood, seminal fluid, vaginal secretions, and even breast milk. The mucosal surfaces like the vagina, anus, and even the mouth are the three main areas for transmission. Although oral transmission routes are much lower than vaginal or anal transmission rates. In order to get tested you have generally wait 3-4 weeks after suspected unprotected activity as that would be how long your immune system take to generate antibodies to the infection. You can visit a doctor to get a blood panel to test for up to 8 different STI's.

Cheers,

John
