I had questionable partners in college and a lot of the one I was unprotected. I am worried because my penis got red and itched slightly. I noticed some ridges also that freaked me out. I'm getting tested next week but I just want to make sure wrote hand. My penis ached and was very dry as well so I'm hoping it was something else.

Neither HSV, nor HPV caused diffuse swelling nor inflammation. HPV is genital warts, which is growths (which I don't see) and HSV is herpes, which I also do not see, because that would take the form of a pock-marked lesion that would hurt like hell and it oozes pus and takes forever to heal. You just have an area of chaffing, which is caused from unprotected intercourse and the fact that you more than likely did NOT use lubricant is the cause. I would suggest using a water or silicone based lubricant in the future to prevent this from happening in the future and if you truly want to prevent the chance of pregnancy and STI's (assuming you're sleeping with multiple partners) then use a barrier method. You can dab hydrocortisone cream onto the inflammed area in the meantime to speed up the healing and it should go away within a few days. You'll be fine.
