Hi Dr. Behar,

This started about a month ago really faint. It's not painful, itchy, or hot.  It's slowly been getting more pronounced and a brighter color of white, I think. They're reddish, white oblong rings of slightly raised skin.

What is it? And how do I get rid of it?

Thanks,
Peter

Answer
Peter,

They could be indications of penile abrasions and nothing more. If they go away in a few days then that's exactly what they are. You tend to get these from unlubricated sexual activity of any kind, including with yourself, or chaffing from underwear or other things. They are not an indication of disease, but if you've never had them looked at before and want a second opinion then please consult with your primary care provider. It does not look like an STI that I'm familiar with.

Cheers,

John
