Question
Hola and Hi,

I am going to visit Margarita Island off the coast of Venezuela for the first
time.
A friend has given us part of a time share, but since I had to reroute my trip,
I was able to speak to a travel agent, again, at Liberty Travel.  He has told me
to let him know if I have a chance to see Los Roques when I go down there.
(I live in NYC).

Well, I looked it up and it looks GORGEOUS!  I was wondering why there are
no direct flights to Margarita Island from NYC (and Miami) but there are
DIRECT flights, apparently to Los Roques.  It looks like I would like to visit
that area.  Do you know anything about it, and whether it is just a nature
preserve and quiet place to rest, or is it a diverse and beautiful resort type
vacation?  I don't know why but I seemed to have missed reading about it in
the press.  Or, perhaps it has been covered, but I was too busy these past two
years to notice.

I am also wondering what would be the best way to get there, once I get to
Margarita Island and get settled.  I don't want to over-pay by going on one of
those all inclusive excursions.  I want to do it as any native would do it.
I believe there are flights from Margarita, but can I arrange all that when I get
there - and is it fairly affordable?  What about a place to stay?  The internet
seems a little limited on its offers.  I believe there has to be more that I do not
know about.  I love little places with a nice ambience but also unpretentious
and affordable (but charming and clean).  (I would NEVER be at a time-share
type of place if our friends did not give it to us and they are so nice I wouldn't
offend them.  I also need a place in Margarita after 5 days at their place -
because our vacation was postponed.  I am going to look around but if you
know something worthwhile in a good location, please don't hesitate to
mention it.

Well, sorry for going on and on!

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

Judith

Answer
Hello Judith:

There are NO direct flights to Los Roques from the USA.

You can only fly to Los Roques from Caracas (Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia) or from Margarita Island (Porlamar) Aeropuerto Internacional del Caribe Santiago Mariņo.
Long name for the airports !!)

You can fly from Caracas and also from Margarita in LTA (Linea Turistica AEREOTUY) www.tuy.com

They fly a Dash 7 four engine plane from Margarita and the Cessna 208 Turboprop single engine Caravan from Margarita.

Aereotuy has complete packages to enjoys Los Roques with one or two nights. I strongly suggest to stay overnite in Los Roques. Is a magnificent national park. Bring lost of sunscreens for protection or for suntan. Bring sunglass (a must) and hat or cap.

Also you can do water sports, snorkeling and even if you are certified Scuba diving.

Aereotuy operates POSADAS (Inns) and also has some nice catamaran to tour the nearby cays.

If you like to try another posadas, I recommend two: Posada LA CORSARIA or Posada BEQUEVE  www.bequeve.com

Los Roques will be the best part of your trip !!
