Question
my husband is Venezuelan and has been here for 13 years. we have two small children. my husband has mentioned getting a job there and moving back by his family. (i speak no spanish) is Venezuela a good place to raise a family? is there a American community? if we didn't have the kids the decision would be easier. he feels that if we don't try it now we won't ever live there.  my family is very scared that we will leave.

Answer
Hi Caity

Where do you presently live ?

Maybe a city such as Merida can be a good place to raise a family, but it all depends what are you trading to come to Venezuela.

Yes there is an important American community, and major Fortune 500 are well established in Venezuela. Some of them have private guards.

Your family is right to very scared for you, husband and children, if you have a low (IQ) (as many of the people that lives here have) then there is no problem, because "Joy of Ignorance" will help you !!

In the 10 yrs (1998-2008) that the Comandante Hugo Chavez has been in power, we have had MORE deaths by crime than in the 10 years that the USA was fighting the war in Vietnam....(The USA mobilized over 14 million troops) and accounted aprox 50.000 casualties....

Just in one day in Caracas, you get on average 31 car robberies...and during EACH weekend nearly  60 deaths...if you add the deaths on weekdays...and multiply that figure by 52 weeks...you will understand...

Insure your husband, make sure you are the beneficiary and let him come alone here to find out and then make and educated decision

Good luck (always)
