Venture Capital & Stock/company shares

Question
Hello, Michael N.

I recently started working for a start-up company as a web developer.

Since it is a start-up the pay is not that great, but I was given company shares as 'payment'.

I do not have a business degree nor knowledge of shares/stocks.

So, what exactly can I do with these shares?

How can I generate wealth with the shares?

Thank you

Answer
Thank you for the email. If the shares are from a publicly traded company you can open an account at any brokerage company and sell the shares on the open market. If the shares are from a private company (not traded on any stock exchange ) they are not worth much right now. If the company goes public at some time in the future they will have value ( think about Facebook shares ). Good luck
