Question
Hi there, I realize that this question may not be totally relevant to your area of expertise but any other advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a British student at university doing a Masters degree in Mathematics. I'm extremely interested in doing an internship in the US next summer in the area of finance. I'm not entirely sure where to start and what to do. If you have any advice or resources about how to go about obtaining an internship and any tips in what employers are looking for and what will impress them etc, this would be very helpful. Also any other advice concerning internships or resumes (what impresses an employer in a resume) would be great.

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Answer
Marck:
There are several good sources for internship and resume advice. The job sites Monster.com. careerbuilder.com and hotjobs.com all list internships amount their job postings. They also have resume advice. Most major financial institutions, banks, brokerage houses and accounting firms have programs. I would contact them about their programs. They will tell you when to apply and their requirements. In the resume any previous experience and relevant courses are important. All these positions are very competitive. Any way you can add value is helpful.
