Question I am a 64 year old, overweight woman with mild hypertension which was being controlled by beta blocker. I am losing weight gradually and am down to 161 lbs.
Developed dizzines one morning a month ago when I woke (lying down).
My blood pressure was up but is now controlled by an angiotensin 2 blocker but I still have the dizziness. I have to lie down and get up very carefully and cannot lean backwards.
I have had tests on my kidneys, heart, several blood tests for diabetes, thyroid etc. but am normal on all tests. Could it be oestrogen deficiency or something like that? Help. I am getting desperate.
Answer Dear Kate:
I guess the key question is whether you have drops in blood pressure when you arise. If that is not the case and you get spinning dizziness when you lie down or move your head quickly or turn over in bed then it is likely you have BPPV or benign postional paroxysmal vertigo.
If that is the case, then exercise therapy is curative and can be done at home.
