Question
Hello Dr. Troost,

My ENT diagnosed me with BPPV and asked me to perform the Epley manuevers should a recurrence occur. He first performed the Epley back in Nov '03, and my vertigo gradually went away. I did not have a recurrence until two weeks ago. I've been doing the Epley exercises at home, 2-3 times a day for the past 2 weeks but vertigo symptoms have not diminished.

Should I continue the exercises until my vertigo goes away or ask to be referred to my ENT again for another diagnosis?

Any advice you can offer is appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
It is likely that exercises will help you.  If you are doing at home let's make sure you are doing the best ones:

I recommned the Brandt-Daroff home exercises - read about them at: http://ivertigo.net/vertigo/vertherapy2.html

I think the diagnosis is correct and that you should continue one form or the other of the exercise therapy.

Best regards,
