Question Dear Doctor Troost MD,
I am a 61 year old male and have been very active all my life. I smoked and drank for 30 years but have been quit 15 years I have been taking Prinivil 5mg morning and night for for 4 months. I have been off all fats for 3 months and walk a mile everyday. I check my pressure and it is doing fine. My question is about my pulse. It stays high most of the time. In the morning it is 80 and by night is 100. If I do any steady work my heart pounds. What could causes something like this and can a person do something about it?
Thanks, Les Ramey
Answer Dear Les:
I am a neurologist interested in dizziness and balance disorders and honestly I do not know enough about possible cardiac disorders to give you an intelligent answer.
You have a tachycardia ( rapid heart rate ) that is increased by activity and there are potentially a lot of medicines that could be helpful to you.
I strongly recommend that you ask to be seen by a cardiologist.
Sorry I was unable to give you a more definitive answer.
