Question I read with interest your chapter on Vertigo and ototoxicity. Thanks for it. I learned a lot about drugs that could cause this. I didn't see any mention of vertigo( esp with respect to Meniere's) caused by excess use of NaCl and/or coffee. I have had only a handfull of debilitating episodes (vertigo, N/V, severe tinnitus, hearing loss) since Feb 1994. In every case I have used Meclizine and Lasix to relieve the discomfort and in almost every case these episodes have been preceeded by excessively salty foods, salycilates, and coffee ingestion. Have you found any relationship to these substances and vertigo?
I am also a longtime migraineur and am extremely anxious to do more investigation and study into the botox tx mentioned on your other site. I will look forward to find someone in the SF Bay Area who has experience in this.
Thanks again.
Answer Dear Paula:
One wonders if you have a tendency to Meniere's disease and triggered off an attack with the excess salt intake.
I may not have mentioned that in my writings, but if a low salt diet is supposed to protect from from attacks of vertigo it seems logical that high salt intake could precipital some attacks.
Botox is going to be increasing used for headache managmement. I am developing a national database of experience physicians and have asked folks in the SF Bay area to respond - so far, in the past two days, no one has. Check back in a couple of weeks and I will see if I have some names there. I do have two names of experienced BOTOX injectors in Southern California.
