Question
Hi doctor Troost: I had this postural test and my ENT doctor said it was inconclusive for my lightheadeness so he is sending me for a mri of the brain and the ears.  I have this odd senstation that most doctors now say is anxiety it is a feeling of spaciness, levitating while walking, sinking into the ground kind of feeling, one note i have in the past had an odd thing:: My left ear on and off had a full sensation brought on by rubbing the muscles below the jaw and the back of the neck, and i have chronic left sided muscle stiffness located on the left side of the neck is that a sign of anything?

Answer
Dear Marc:

It sounds to me as though you are developing muscle spasms in your neck both due to anxiety and rubbing on it.  My belief is that your scans will turn out to be normal and you mainly need reassurance.  It don't think your current muscle stiffness is a sign of anything unusual.

Best regards,
