Question I have been suffering from vertigo for two weeks now. It has been hell. I am on antivert for two weeks, steroids as of today. My question is.. What is the best way to get into a standing position arising from bed. Going real slow can be just as bad as getting up fast just to get it over with. Leaning against the wall waiting for the room to straighten out, it is best to keep your eyes open or closed. I would appreciate and advice.
Thank you,
Answer Dear Mary:
There are many types of vertigo, the most common being being positional vertigo or BPPV that you can read about on my vertigo website at: http://ivertigo.net/bppv.html (short version - more detail elsewhere on www.ivertigo.net ).
In general the best was to change positions is gradually no matter what the symptoms. It doesn't matter whether the eyes are open or shut - it is whatever makes you feel the most stable.
