Subject: 3-way 9800gtx+ has issues i think.
Question Hey,
So i built my new pc and i put an 3-way Asus striker II formula sli 780i mother board with the Intel quad core Q9650 @ 3.00 GHZ and 3 9800gtx+s and 4 gigs of coarsair 800miz ram (soon to be 8 gigs of coarsair 1066miz dominator ram) in the beast and im running windows Vista ultimate in it as well. I updated all my video drivers and OS drivers and i set eveything up to date and down loaded the NVIDA tool thing. Well i went out and bought Stalker clear sky and started playing it and i switched it to all 3 of the cards and then i ran it on DX9 for awhile and it was fine. Then i changed the settings to DX10 and when i start up the aplication the screen is as big as (i estimate) 3/8 of the screen in the top left corner of the screen. But when i swich it off all 3 cards just to 1 its fine. Or if i go back to DX9 with all 3 cards ether way it gives me the finger when i want to use all 3 cards and DX10 at the same time XD so i thought it was the game so i downloaded the latest patchs and still the same thing. I have research on the issue (Game manufacter, game fourms, youtube etc) and i havent seen an issue like mine anywhere. So do you think its just the game the doesnt utilize 3-way sli, or something that i dont have that doesnt support it for some odd reasion? Or could it be a driver or card issue? i have yet to test any other DX10 compatible game on it with the 3-way sli format yet (such as Crysis and such) should i do that? Im so frustrated. Thanks Kevin.
Answer I'd have to say its probably just compatability between tri-SLI, DX10, and the game itself, I wouldn't worry about it if the game is working properly in all other modes, as it doesn't sound like anything is broken (if the game weren't working period, I'd look for problems).
One more thing to point out, there is no reason to buy 8GB of RAM, you'll see basically no performance increase, especially in games, so unless you're doing professional DCC work, its just wasted resources.
