Subject: Replacing Gforce Fx5200 card?

Question
I am looking to replace this card in an older (4 yr old) machine that is not a "brand" box.  It was made specifically for me by a shop.  What card should I be looking for?  The problem is that when there are large graphics on a page, the screen overlays itself multiple times and jumps about.  It is fine on certain pages - like the Google main page or this page.  I'd appreciate any thoughts,

Linda

Answer
FX5200 is usually a 4x or 8x AGP card. You need to check the motherboard documentation to see which it supports. If they did not supply this (shame on them) use this utility:

Its my online hard drive so the files are safe
Unzip that and run it - no install required. Click the mainboard tab. It will tell you the manufacturer and model of the motherboard. Go online and check the manufacturer's website for documentation. If unsure just post back the make and model of the motherboard and I'll find out for you.

It may be that you just need to update the video drivers.
Here is the updated driver for windows XP

Just download and install that. I would try that before actually replacing the video card.
