Question
hi. my monitor has been blinking back and forth from normal to black screen. i have windows XP. im not sure about my exact video card but im sure its a Nvidia (not sure on spelling). when i asked before i was told:
" Open the case and make sure the video card is in the whole way. The best way to do this is to remove it and reinsert it into the slot.
Then boot to safe mode by continously pressing F8 before windows starts.
go to my computer, right click C:, go to the tools tab and choose check disk. Reboot.
If you get into windows get this program
http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=7...
run that and say no to demo mode.
then do a disk defragment. start-program-accessories-system tools
If you have a virus scanner run that also
If not Avast is free to home users
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html"

i tried all this, and it seemed to work for about 2 hours, and then went back to what it was doing. i am able to run it in safe mode without any problems. Avast didnt fond anything when it searched. i really enjoyed the cleanup program, and it helped speed up my moms computer.
anyways do you have any other ideas on what i can try? would a full wipe of my system help?
thanks for your time

Answer
If everything id OK in safe mode it could be a driver problem.
Enter safe mode again. Right click my computer and choose manage. Scroll down to device manager. Expand display adapters. write down the make and model of the video card. Example: Nvidia Geforce 7300se.
Then right click the card and choose uninstall/remove.
The go to add remove programs in control panel. Uninstall any Nvidia software and or drivers listed.
Reboot
When you enter windows cancel the device install wizard.
The go here:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Choose the option that pertain to your card and operating system.
DOwnload the driver and install it.
Reboot.

Let me know if the problem persists.
