Question my step father recently built me a computer, as he's done for the last 15 years or so. I connected everything and began to use it frequently for about three days, when my wife came across an error saying that microsoft software had encountered problems and to reatart the computer in safe mode....blah..blah..blah! Can't remember everything it had said. so she turned off the computer until i came home from work. When I turned it on, nothing would display on the monitor (completely blank) I did hear the fans going once I turned it on and the LED light to the monitor was showing it had power. When I went to push the power button on the tower, it wouldn't turn off....same thing with the reset button. everything was froze up. I eventually turned off from the back power source. I unplugged everything...took out and reconnected the video card....and I checked all my other connections. BUT still encountered the same problem. I know it's not the monitor, because I hooked up my old PC and everything worked fine, except for being slow. (my reason for the new PC in the first place) The only thing that seemed odd was that my father installed Microsoft office 2003 instead of xp. But besides that, all the components are brand new. Can you help me out ?...the frustration is beginning to build up.
Thanks Aaron
Answer Start with the memory chips. Pull them out and only put one in. Keep swapping them till you find the culprit. Faulty memory will cause the prob you describe.
You may also try pulling all the cards except video. If you find a certain card is causing a problem just moving it to another slot usually works.
I'm betting of the memory though.
