Question
QUESTION: Hello, I wish to upgrade my graphics card as I love to play games and can not play new games with my current graphics card which is a SIS 651 which i'm pretty sure is integrated. I have an Advent 2001 PC and have had it open and found a couple of free slots one of which is a brown colour. Could you please advise me which card to purchase and how I would go about installing it. Thanks.

ANSWER: The brown slot is aGP slot but we need to know which type. Post back the model and serial and i'll check it out for you.

QUESTION: Hello Chris,
The requested information: Graphics interface version is AGP 2.0
Transfer rate 4x
Max supported 4x
Side band enabled.
Hope this is what you need.
Thanks.

Answer
Ok what you got is an AGP 4x slot.
There are several manufacturers and types (ATI, Nvidia, ect)
I am partial to Nvidia so that's what I'll recomend.
Geforce 6 series cards

Geforce 7 Series

there are a couple card in the FX series, but they are not worth it.
Any of those cards will work for your AGP slot.
Be aware that some cards do require more power and will have a special power connector on the back side (these are mostly in the geforce 7 series). You'll need an adapter or a new power supply with the connector to run them.
Mostly you'll be looking at memory size, pipelines, memory type, bit interface, and direct/open gl support.
If you are still not sure, give me a good idea what kind of games you are playing (titles) and I can recommend a card that will last you awhile.
Hope this helps
