QUESTION: Thanks  for responding - I did all that - problem is worse - went to a web site that has a "graphics card checking device" and when I use that tester - the screen just goes black and the light on the on /off buton on monitor just flashes - Is card fried ?

Answer
Yep sound like a problem with the card. Try opening the case and pulling the card out, then reinsert it.
If still no go, your gonna need to replace it as it seams its on its way out.

The FX series card were not made to really play the newer games anyway. You can get a pretty good card from them for a good price. Just make sure you get the right slot type. Use the menu on the left to narrow the search.
