Question Hi, My system uses an geforce 6600gt AGP card. Yesterday the display went blank during an email seesion. On reboot the screen shows vertical dashed white lines while the BIOS loads, switching to a chequered pattern of coloured lines while windows is booting. the display then fails entirely shortly after. The mobo is Asus A7N8X, CPU is Athlon 3000x.
Answer Purchase some canned air from an office supply store.
Turn off the PC and open the case. Use the canned air to blow out the inside of the case. Pay special attention to fans and the power supply (just blow the air into the vents of the power supply).
Remove the video card from the computer and reinsert it into it's slot.
Reboot and check function.
