Question Just installed a Zotac 8800gt amped vid card to replace my 6600 and pc sounds like it trying to start but there is a loud screeching sound. The monitor has signal. Wondering if not compatable with my somewhat crappy Asus motherboard. Prety sure it doesn't have pci 2.0 but the good people at Asus told me via phone it wouldn't matter. Hope you could tell me what I did/didn't do. Than ks in advance.
Answer Yea Asus is famous for these things. Most likely your card will be supported but a Bios update may be needed. They always assume everyone goes to their site and updates the bios all the time.
Put the old video card back in so you can get online. Check their site for a bios update. Flash the bios. restart the computer and enter the bios. Go to the last page in bios and load the setup defaults. Then shut down and put the new card in.
It should work now, let me know if it does not.
