Question
QUESTION: When I turn on my computer on and the windows logo appears there are 1/4" squares in horizontal arrangement that fills the background of the screen. When my Desktop appears, there are interference appearing lines all over the screen, plus there are four vertical columns that go from top to bottom of the screen. There seems to be information going on in those columns and the Hard Drive is running. It seems that when the computer warms up enough, the column and the interference disappear! If I reboot while the PC is still warm, it reboots normally. If I reboot after the PC has cooled down, it boots with the problem described above. Please let me know where my problem lies or what further diagnostics I can perform to narrow down the problem. Thank You.
Charlie

ANSWER: Can you test with a different monitor or graphics card connected? Any information about your hardware or software environment? Any recent changes in the system, or major events in the system's history (i.e: it took a power surge).

QUESTION: Hi Bob
Thank you for responding so quickly! Sorry I don't have an extra monitor or graphics card, but I do have some more information. After I run HijackThis with its log file, and the above problem seemed to have gotten better. Now it seems to be an intermittent problem, happening every 3 or 4 times I boot up my computer. I have copied some lines off the Log that are suspicious to me. Would you please comment on these files and inform me if they are harmful and if they are on how to deal with them.

Answer
Looks like random garbage from various system operations, or startup loads that you may or may not need. Sorry that I can't provide much more information. Maybe run some spyware/registry cleaning software to fix some of the issues, and a good virus scan, if it seems that the problem is entirely software related. If all else fails, try a reformat (assuming the problem only exists in Windows, and not at any other stage of the bootup process).
