Subject: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512 AGP - driver won't install

Question
Got a VisionTek Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512 AGP Graphics card today, hoping to utilie a second monitor that I've got.

Disabled old driver (nVidea GeForce3 T1 200), D/L'd newest driver pacakge from ATI (Catalyst 8.8) shut down. Pulled old card. Installed new card. Connected both ends of the Y cable to power. Start up. Went with new driver, rather than from CD. Got an install error part-way through, said there wasn't a driver for this hardware.

Found a hack that added the device to the driver association, and tried it again. Everything seemed to install correctly, but when I try to run CCC, it says no driver for ATI is installed. Device Manager shows the little yellow (!) next to it. Says can't start, code 10.

I just want to get the driver installed properly, recognized in the device manager, and dual monitors functioning like the plug and play they're supposed to be.

Over 12 hours invested in trying to figure this out, and it's driving me nuts.

Mobo is a bit old, running Dual AMD 1700+, 1.47gHz, 1GB RAM.

Answer
Honestly it might not work, due to the age of the system, as some older hardware refuses to accept bridged AGP solutions (such as this HD 2600). I'd consider uninstalling all of the ATi/nVidia graphics drivers, and loading the drivers from the CD for the HD 2600, see if they work.
