Question
Hello.! Im here to ask of how can i fix a scratched CD?my dmw3 disk has been pretty scratched for a while now and sometimes i feel like playing it but it just keeps saying reading disk on my ps2 then after a while says disk read error what can i do to fix this?

Answer
Gday Cris,

The simple method of removing scratches is to buff them out.  The home units you can get for about $30 are pieces of crap and do more damage than anything only the professional units do a very good job.  (I personally use a jfj Easy Pro well worth the money.  Often they are a good investment if you have a lot of DVD/CD/Games.)

Most games stores (EB, GameStop etc) or even DVD rental (Blockbuster, Hollywood, EZ etc) places have professional units and will resurface it for you for a few $$.  Usually worth the couple of $$ just to attempt it, try asking around until you find one.

It really depends of the type and depth of scratch or any damage to the picture side of the disk.  Any damage on the picture side of the disk is usually fatal (As the data actually lies just under this layer)  the shiny side is all plastic protection.

If your are to do it yourself on the cheap use a soft non abrasive cloth and some type of cleaner that is non-alcoholic or does not have abrasive in it.  A glass cleaner or even a metal polish will work.  Buff in a circular motion around the disk never back and forth.  You may not be able to remove the scratch completely but a good cleaning usually help a disk read removing minor scratches and all the dirt and grime that comes from just handling the disk.  (Don't use toothpaste or peanut butter or anything stupid)

Hope this helps
