Video Game Repair/1980 pac man arcade game

Hi I have bought a 1980 pac man arcade game and when I purchased it everything was working perfect. I brought it home and have let it sit for 6 months or so now. now when I turn it on the screen does nothing. The sound works perfect the the screen doe nothing not light up not anything. And like I Said the sound works perfect you can hear the game running the program just NOTHING on the screen. What could this be & how can we get it fixed ASAP???

  Thank You

Hi Brandon,

First of all, open the back of the cabinet. Can you hear the high-pitched noise that the monitor gives off? Do you see any glow in the neck of the monitor? If so, then your monitor is powering up. If not, then your monitor has likely died and needs to be replaced.

A couple of things that you can try however-

Check the fuse on the bottom of the cabinet. There should be 5 fuses. Pull each one out and inspect if. If there is one blown, then that's likely the culprit. Replace it and you should be good to go.

If that doesn't work...

With the power off, check the connections on the monitor. If it has two daughterboards on it, unplug them and plug them back in. Make sure that everything is making good contact.

Let me know what you find!

I can answer questions regarding coin-operated arcade game questions down to the logic board. Error codes, erratic operation, dead boards, I can help with them all. I can help with video monitors on a very limited and basic level only.

I have spent nearly 20 years as an avid arcade collector, and spent nearly 10 of those years as the lead tech for a large arcade operator, doing work for manufacturers and other coin-operated amusement companies around the globe. I maintain a good sized collection of arcade games, as well as a large inventory of spare parts for a wide range of arcade machines.
