Video Game Repair/Golden Tee 2005

Hi Brian,

I have a Golden Tee 2005 with two issues:

1) When turning on it will make a repeating popping noise and not boot up at all. After several times powering it up it will work properly.

2) Red color on flagsticks for example are black.  Basically have lost red color in game.

It sounds to me like you've got two separate, unrelated problems.

1) The fact that the game won't boot on the first try says that you've likely got a failing hard drive or power supply. The first thing I would check would be the power supply. There will be a small knob on it with an arrow. Turn it about 1/3 of an inch in the direction of the arrow and then turn the game on. This adjusts the +5VDC up, and you may simply have too low of a voltage. If this doesn't work, then I would suggest replacing the hard drive. They are inexpensive on Ebay/Amazon.

2) Your monitor has lost the red drive gun. While this could be either a problem inside the monitor or on the monitor chassis, the repair cost will far exceed the cost to purchase a replacement monitor. Call a local arcade distributor or search Craigslist for a replacement.

Hope this helps!

I can answer questions regarding coin-operated arcade game questions down to the logic board. Error codes, erratic operation, dead boards, I can help with them all. I can help with video monitors on a very limited and basic level only.

I have spent nearly 20 years as an avid arcade collector, and spent nearly 10 of those years as the lead tech for a large arcade operator, doing work for manufacturers and other coin-operated amusement companies around the globe. I maintain a good sized collection of arcade games, as well as a large inventory of spare parts for a wide range of arcade machines.
