Video Game Repair/Golden Tee 2014

Nighthawk Unit
Nighthawk Unit
I recently purchased a used GT 2014 on line... I set it up, it boots up great and plays the previews just fine.  If I press start to play, it starts to go into play mood to choose # of golfers then blanks out and displays an "ERROR 14 I/O Board Incompatiable... I thought it may have something to do with the controls, so I restarted the unit... previews play just fine again... without touching any controls, it will play the previews for about 20-30 minutes and then display the same error... any direction on fixing this would be greatly appreciated...

Hi Jack,

The I/O board on the Nighthawk system is serial number and version specific- that is to say that the security code for the version that you have is stored in the I/O board and will give you that error if it doesn't match the serial number and version of the computer you have. I've seen this before where someone will put a newer version of the game on the hard drive and then sell it (as it will get a higher  price than an older edition) but never actually pay the upgrade fee to upgrade the I/O board. This will cause that exact problem that you're seeing.

The upgrade fees are hundreds of dollars, and only available through the company that makes Golden Tee.

I would contact the seller and either get an unused upgrade kit from them, or contact the company and see what a true upgrade would cost.

I wish I had better news for you!

I can answer questions regarding coin-operated arcade game questions down to the logic board. Error codes, erratic operation, dead boards, I can help with them all. I can help with video monitors on a very limited and basic level only.

I have spent nearly 20 years as an avid arcade collector, and spent nearly 10 of those years as the lead tech for a large arcade operator, doing work for manufacturers and other coin-operated amusement companies around the globe. I maintain a good sized collection of arcade games, as well as a large inventory of spare parts for a wide range of arcade machines.
