Question I recently dropped my PSP and found that it would not play any UMD's All other systems like music, and downloaded videos worked fine. I always get the "cannot read disk" error message when trying to play a game or movie. I thought it was the laser so i tried cleaning it with a cloth and q-tip but it didn't work. What is the problem, and how much will it cost to fix?
Answer Hi,
I'm afraid I can't say for sure what the problem is, or how much it would cost to fix, without seeing it myself. My first guess though would be that either the UMD spindle or laser gears got damaged/jammed in the fall which would be $49 if I fixed it here myself. There's a lot of other things though that could cause the same symptoms, the worst of which would be a damaged motherboard at $130, but I see no reason not to be optimistic at this point as the odds are in favor of it being a minor repair. Thanks, Lynn
