no this is not the answer. internally, the yellow plug on the chasis of the psp has 2 wires running from it that total just over 5 volts. they run to a mini connector on the board. at that point there is a mini fuse that carries voltage to the next trace over.
when you unplug the game from the transformer, the game turns off. power from the battery is not being being switched to as the power source. I have yet to totally tear the thing down to parts yet, but it is close. it seems on the opposite side or the board under the umd player or somewhere under the lcd is the charging circuit. right now as there is no schematic around, I wouldn't doubt it all to be controled by the processor within the unit. if that be the case you will need a new mother board. unless you know a way around reinstalling firmware with a low battery reading. if not, there should be a fuse on the battery trace that could be faulty as well. I just haven't found it yet. to give a more accurate answer.

Just to add something, Before Getting something new for your Psp, Try push your charger in the PSP and swivel it in a 360 movement a few times. if it doesn't work, try it in a different outlet. worked for me.
