About Trey McGowan
Expertise
I can answer strategy questions for just about any video games. RPGs and collecting/raising sims are my major specialty, though I am also experienced in general strategy games, a variety of MMORPGs, and possibly even some much more esoteric ones. I can't promise that I'll be able to answer all your questions from personal experience, but I can promise that if I can't, I will do my utmost to research the answer before I give it to you.

Best consoles to ask about: NES, SNES, GB/GBC, GBA, Playstation, Playstation II. If you are asking outside of this list, please give a little extra time for some research to be done on the game.

Please note: if you are wanting a particular version of strategy (i.e. a *fast* playthrough, a powerful playthrough, a challenge game, a specific boss beat in a specific way), make sure the details are added. The more I know about what *you* want to know, the better.

Experience
I am an avid player of video games of various types, including RPGs, strategy games, MMORPGs, et cetera. I have been playing since the Atari 1300 days, and even back then, learning the strategy and the like of the games was as interesting as beating it.

Organizations
Various video game boards, including GameFAQs

Education/Credentials
Upwards of twenty years in various video games playing and finishing. I have read FAQs extensively, and have educated myself directly in a lot of the games that I've played.

Question
Ok, I don't own the game yet but hopefully I get it for my birthday, but in the mean time I've been keeping a file on my friends system...I came to a dead end though, I ended up having to fight Demex for the second time, I believe, in Hallow Bastion, but I kept fighting him and fighting him, but every time I kept failing and it's really getting on my nerves and even worse is that I'm on EASY mode thanks to my friends(I didn't know until about half way through the game, and that really hurt my ego..) But, I was hoping that I could get some tips on maybe how I could defeat Demex finally...that would be a great relief!!
Thanks a bunch and I'll be waiting for your answer...

Answer
Hi there, Jordyn!

Please excuse the delay in this answer. I'm not good about checking the question pool daily, and only just peeked in today. Hopefully this will find itself into your hands!

Ahh, Demyx. The cheese factor on this boss is *massive*. I gave a few tips a while back on how to defeat him, but I'll try and repeat some of them here.

First off, the thing you should *NOT* do is try activating your other forms. Doing so is begging to very possibly turn into the form of Antisora, and if you do so, you will lose a *ton* of attack power. Sure, you'll get a major switch in speed, but that won't help for this; you need to be able to hit hard, and hit *fast*, and he'll only allow one of those two things. Secondly, a reason not to do it even if you *don't* change is that you'll generally add a flourish to your attacks. This normally is a fun and fancy thing. In here, though, it can be fatal. See, you're on the time limit from heck.

As I'm sure you've noticed, you have a ten second timer in which to kill a whole bunch of his 'water forms'. The best way to do this is to jump into the fray and start spamming your attack. Most of them will go down in a couple hits. Whenever you see the Reaction 'Wild Dance' come up, hit it; this will lash out at a bunch of them and help destroy them in record time!

For equips, I suggest keeping your two Disneys on potion duty. That is to say, give them hi-potions (or whatever your best potions at this point are) and get them to use them when they're needed. Donald should be equipped with his cure ability for the same reason. Essentially, you are focusing on destroying and they are focusing on healing you. Goofy will take pot-shots at the enemy, but don't waste time in commanding him to do anything; let him take his lumps and be ready to throw potions at you when you need the help. For yourself? Go anti-water. A lot of his scary stuff is water-based, and this will help you defend against the brunt of it.

The moment all his water forms are gone, lock on him and just start pounding away. I wish I could give you some strategy tactics in this one, but really, there don't tend to be any. Just throw your hardest hits, throw your reaction the *SECOND* it comes up (you have a very short time to do it in), and prepare yourself for the water attacks he'll be flinging at you. Dodge Roll will be massive help against his water balls attacks, while the spouts are best handled with gliding or Aerial Assault, using them to your advantage.

If at any time you hear him say 'Dance Water, Dance' or something to that effect, forget about him and focus instead on the water forms around him. You'll have a limited amount of time to whack them down. Like the first salvo of enemies, focus on fast physical and your Wild Dance to take them down.

Now, when he gets down toward low health, you might want to risk a form. If you don't turn into Antisora (which is quite likely, depending on how you used your forms before this battle; consider yourself warned!), then the added damage of a Wisdom Form may well be the last bump you need to take him down. However, my suggestion is that you stick with 'Sora form' the whole time and just focus on fast, hard, and avoidance.

Do I make this sound simple? I wish it was; this is the first *REALLY* nasty enemy that you'll fight, so don't feel bad about how long it's taken you to take him down. Above all else, focus on not letting him overwhelm your time limit with his water forms, and don't lose track of what 'phase' in the battle you're in. Keep that in mind, and it should help you take down this hard boss.

If the above doesn't work out, feel free to throw a callback and I'll see if I can't work out a slightly more detailed idea, though I don't think 'fancy work' is going to come into it here so much as positioning, defense, and a lot of luck.

Trey
