Question
My wife and I will be coming by ship --can you suggest what to see and how to get there from the port? Thanks

Answer
Hello Richard,

Unfortunately, I'm not so familiar with that area in particular but have found that it is one of the ports for Ho Chi Minh City. It seems to be a decent distance from the city center so hiring transportation seems to be the best way to get there. Again, I don't know that area specifically but as with most areas in SE Asia, finding a local travel agency or taxi service is usually pretty easy to do. If you're coming in by cruise ship, it is highly likely that there will be hoards of people (tour groups and/or taxis) there as you step off the dock waiting to take you to the city at the right price (which will be relatively cheap).

Once in HCMC, there is a lot to see and do depending on your interests. If you're interested, there is the War Remnants Museum but be aware that it could be a very powerful and emotional experience. There is also the Cu Chi Tunnel tour which you will explore the old Viet Cong tunnels but you can avoid it if you dislike dark, underground, and muggy places. There is the Mekong Delta tour but you will already be in that area when you disembark so you may be able to set that up directly without going into the city.

HCMC is a massive city with lots of motorbikes and people everywhere. If you love big cities and that type of energy, just walking around it can be fun and exciting. If you don't care so much for the big city experience, you may just want to do the Mekong Delta tour which would limit your commute times. Either way, Vietnam is a fantastic and beautiful country and I hope you enjoy your time there. I hope this has been helpful. Have a safe journey!

Al
