Question We live in northern Indiana and Six years ago I planted a wisteria vine. It is on the east side of the house on a trellis. I have to keep trimming the vine back as it grows profusely. It has not bloomed yet and I am wondering if there's something I need to do to encourage blooms. And besides, i don't know when it should bloom in Indiana. I just know I love the wisteria flower and wanted one. Thanks for your help!
Answer Hi Sue,
Patience is a virtue with wisteria. At six years old your wisteria is still young. Some go for years before their first bloom especially if you bought an un-named type that was grown from seed as opposed to a named variety that was grown from cuttings. Wisteria must have full sun in order to bloom well. If yours is being shaded by nearby trees that could be adding to the problem. Wisteria generally flowers in June in your area.
