yes they did come with a manual trans starting in 78 but they are rare. what's really rare is one that's fully loaded... bucket seats tilt steering t-tops power everything(windows etc.)and a v8 with 4 speed. but a really rare option is the on board diagnostic panel in the center console. and i've only heard of one to exist with all of those options and it's in canada

Chevy did make 1979 monte carlos with an a manual transmission. My father bought one new in 1979. Even back then it was a rare car. He would frequently get asked at stop lights if he wanted to sell the car.

My old neighbor bought his Monte new. It was ordered with a 4-spd. from the factory. In fact when he took it in for service once the service adviser didn't believe it was factory until he was shown the window sticker. He told me once that Chevrolet supposedly built 9 cars with the manual and 1979 was the only year you could get a Monte with a manual transmission.

Chevrolet offered 305 4 speed manual trans Monte Carlos in mid 78 all 79 and early 1980 worked at the dealer at the time we sold only 2 in three years.
I have a friend at rock n roll automotive in carpenters ill who has a 1979 305 V8 factory T top monte for sale it drives great but the body and interior need work no major body damage but the factor paint coming off and all the plastic Crome is falling off-very common those years rare car
