Subject: NEW to AVs - pinch off dead blooms?

Question
I received a beautiful trio of AVs as a gift and I've never cared for them before.  Is it proper to pinch off dead and dried blooms?  Is there a specific blooming season or should they bloom year round?  thank youo.

Answer
Hello:

African violets bloom all year long provided they get a good amount of light (no direct sun) water, and fertilizer.

Give one quarter teaspoon fertilizer per gallon of warm water and feed about ever 7-10 days depending on the dryness of your apartment.

Yes, it is recommended to pinch off faded blooms.  Once flowers are in decline, you can just pinch them off to help the appearance.

Have fun with them.

Nancy
