Subject: Gloxinia

Question
I have had a gloxinia for several years.  Every year before it flowers the stem seems to weaken and cannot support the upper part of the plant or the flowers.  Since the plant goes dormant every year, is there anything I can do so the plant says erect while it flowers?

Thank you for your help.

Mike Smith

Answer
Gloxinia are not my area of expertise although I have grown a few.  I suggest you pinch off all flowers for a year and refresh the soil so it gives vigour to the plant.

The following flowering season should produce stronger flowers for you.
