Question
Ihave inherited my father's violin. Inside a border on the left interior isthe inscription Instruments d Artistes
Jacques LeClerc
 Annee
I would be glad of anything you might be able to tell me about this instrument. It has very good sound and plays well.

Answer
Hi Rick, I would have to look at the Jaques LeClerc for you to see if it is authentic. There was maker by that name making instruments (mostly violas)around the turn of the last century in Mirecourt, France. The ones we have had in the shop were of the good quality commercial grade of French trade instrument, generally valued about $3000 if they are in good shape and sound good (not all of them in original condition do - they often need adjusting) You are welcome to e-mail me digital photos at dalton@pottersvioins.com and I will examine them and clarify further, if I can.
Dalton
