About Todd Sullivan
Expertise
Hello, I am a NYC violinist performing for Broadway shows, symphony orchestras, opera, and sundry theatre/pop tours. I would be happy to answer your questions about anything related to being a performer in the music business. I play both violin and viola professionally, so questions on playing either instrument are welcome. The only thing I am not well informed on is information concerning instruments/bows...those questions are best left to luthiers.

Experience
Professional experience includes a variety of on/off Broadway tours and shows, numerous orchestras, tours with Ray Charles and Ann Murray orchestras, leader of the 20-piece Todd Sullivan Orchestra.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor of Fine Arts (violin) with honors from Carnegie Mellon University (1999)

Question
hey,um 18 years.i wanna start learning how to play violin but um hesitated becoz so many ppl told me its hard to learn it as um 18,they told me that ppl start playing it when they r children.i cannot make my desicion but i love it and i will take private lessons ,also um wondering how long i will take to learn playing it?

Answer
You should not hesitate to start violin if you are interested.  You can start an instrument at any age and enjoy yourself, although violin employs skills that are more difficult to acquire as an adult than those needed for proficiency on other instruments.  I would not recommend that anyone begin violin at 18 years of age in the hopes of becoming a professional, but for recreation and leisure and with a good teacher you could start getting good results in one or two years.
